Potty Training...part 9

I took these in the bathroom the other day while we were waiting for Sam to poop on the potty.

I'll spare you the long and painful details of our progress with that and just say it was dramatic, lasted for about three hours, involved screaming, tears, a suppository and M&M's. At one point, Sam was screaming like he was in labor and yelling that he wanted his daddy. To which I replied in a very loud voice (okay, I yelled right back), "Daddy is not here! Daddy cannot hear you! I am the only one that has to listen to you scream. Stop and just poop." He then informed me that I was scaring him...

Not my most shining mommy moment for sure. I got some cute pictures of Grace though.

Can you hear her saying "Cheese!"?

Ok I have to say this had me laughing out loud because D is the same exact way. He can turn what should be a 3 minute event into 5 hours of pain and screaming. Sigh it must be a boy thing!

I would try potty training rewards. This worked great potty training our son. Instead of just giving him a chocolate reward, this also has positive reinforcement. Our son loved pushing the audio button hearing he is a Big Boy and opening a door to find a chocolate surprise. He really became involved. He was peeing and pooping in his potty within a week. I know every child is different, but have a look and see if this would work for you. www.pottytrainingrewards.com

Oh, I'm so sorry :) Hunter would put on a diaper and hide under the table to poop when he was almost 3. By then he was pee trained but refused to poop on the potty. But Gwen was trained by 18 months, so when he saw her do it, and we took away the diapers, well, he had no choice :) And he never looked back (thank goodness!)

Boys are hard to train!! My Joseph would actually hold his pee ALL DAY. By night time he was sweating and carrying on trying to hold it in. This would go on night after night until he would practically fall asleep on the potty. I would beg and plead and sing and read and hold his hand.... One night Sean walked out of the bedroom, gave his little butt a swat and told him that boys don't carry on that way. He told him to get it done so that he could play. Joseph was devastated and I was convinced that he was scared for life. But you know what? He went to the bathroom happily ever since then. Go figure. There really should be a manual for such things.
